Soles in the Backcountry
Actives Soles designed a book to help adventure seekers get outside in the Mat-Su Valley and experience what it has to offer. Our book suggests 20 Target Adventures, 5 Adventure Hikes and 6 Peaks to complete. Individuals can choose to do whichever series best suits them. We give the community 5 months to complete the book before we celebrate at the end of the season with raffle prize drawings, awards ceremony and a short film festival from outdoor enthusiasts in our community. Our vision for the book is to inspire the community to discover the trails, parks and adventures that await them in the Mat-Su Valley.
Come grab an Adventure Book at Active Soles during store hours or check out our SITBC website for more infromation.

Mat-Su Running Club
MatSu Running Club (MSRC) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an educational and recreational running program for people of the Mat-Su Valley. It is the responsibility of the organization to provide a healthy and fun running program for people of all abilities. The Women's Group, formerly the Valley Women's Running Team, is a women-only running division of the MSRC.
Our goal is to encourage people to set and meet personal goals and increase the enjoyment and satisfaction of running. The season starts in April and ends in August with an extended season to September. Many runners use this as their training for competitive racing in Alaska and enjoy the pinnacle of running—a marathon, iron man or a destination race in the Lower 48. Others have no firm race goals but use the MSRC as a way to maintain running fitness while making social connections with fit, fun, and likeminded people.
Settlers Bay Solstice 5K
The second annual Settlers Bay Solstice 5k race is utilizing the trails along the beautiful Cook Inlet, starting and ending at Settlers Bay Golf Course in Knik. This run will be benefiting the Coastal Park that was purchased by The Great Land Trust for maintenance of the trails on this new property. Experience the inlet views like never before by running through a brand new trail system all the way to the Bay. Enjoy live music and a beverage afterward and celebrate the Summer Solstice with a fun 5k!

Palmer Winter Triathlon
This race consists of a 16k Bike, 6k Run, 600-yard swim. Depending on conditions we may recommend studded tires for the bike ride and studded shoes for the run because of the winter snowy/icy conditions on the bike path and road. The Swim will take place in the Palmer Pool at the end portion of the race. It is a fun triathlon held in a backwards direction and introduces racers to a different type of climate in cold conditions. Hot chocolate and medals are provided to each racer.
